
Budget Overview
The Budget of the Tompkins County Solid Waste Management Division funds all of the program areas that together comprise a fully integrated resource management system. In 2007 the Solid Waste Division’s budget is $5,206,499.00. All of the revenues for the entire budget come from fees and sale of materials. No property taxes are used to fund any portion of the Solid Waste budget.
Revenue streams to fund the budget include: disposal fees, the Annual Fee, and sale of recyclables.
The Budget (expenditures) are divided into several different programs. The program areas are: Administration, Disposal, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), Old Landfills and facilities, Recycling, Recycling Collection and Waste Reduction and Reuse. The program areas with the largest expenditures are Disposal $1,866,905 - 32% and Recycling $1,734,068 – 30%. On the revenue side, the areas that provide the greatest level of revenues are Annual Fee $2,861,756 – 48%, Disposal Fees $1,747,920 – 34% and sale of recyclables $785,000 – 14%.
