Recyclable Paper

| Yes Clean corrugated boxes; boxboard (cereal, pasta, shoe and tissue boxes); paper egg cartons. Remove plastic liners. Flatten boxboard and put in bin with other papers. Flatten corrugated cardboard. Pieces must be no larger than 4ft. X 4ft. X 1.5ft. for curbside pickup. Stack next to or in your recycling bin. | No Wax- or plastic-coated boxes, wood, plastic or string. No leftover food. No boxes from wet foods, such as ice cream, frozen foods or take-out foods. | |

Recyclable Containers

How to prepare mixed paper:
- Corrugated cardboard may be placed in or next to recycling bin for curbside pickup
Use grocery bags to hold newspaper, mixed paper, or additional grocery bags
Flatten all boxes
Remove plastic windows from pasta boxes
Staples, paper clips, rubber bands and envelope windows are OK
How to prepare mixed containers:
- Remove and discard all lids
- Rinse and drain all containers
- Labels and neck rings are acceptable
- If possible, flatten milk cartons and drink boxes
- Remove straws from drink boxes
- Stack yogurt and margarine containers together
Businesses may put two recycling bins worth of materials out for curbside collection.

In Tompkins County, it is mandatory for businesses to recycle the following materials: office paper, newspaper, corrugated cardboard, glass bottles and jars, and metal food and beverage containers.
